DNA: Can it predict your future health?

Saturday 3 November 2012, 2pm – 3:30pm at Manchester Museum on Oxford Road, Manchester.

Free – places going fast, so advance booking recommended:

It is almost 10 years since scientists around the world managed to sequence the DNA from a human. The technology has moved on at astounding pace and it is now possible to sequence DNA relatively easily. This has the potential to impact on us all and many people expect DNA testing to soon be routine. But what can your DNA reveal?

Nowgen is running this event to explore what DNA testing can tell you about your future health and ask people how much they would want to know. Dr Bill Newman will share his expertise as an experienced consultant and researcher in genetic medicine. He will describe how DNA testing is currently used and how valuable it can be. Following this event, some musicians will perform a fascinating and unique musical and visual representation of DNA. This exciting performance has been developed by CellSonics, which is a collaboration between Manchester-based musicians Rob Turner and Chris Illingworth, working alongside experimental electronic musician Paul Jones and visual artist Blain Norvun.
