Meet the scientists - 2011-03-31
Over 100 A-Level students recently visited the Biomedical Research Centre to find out more about genetics research. Nowgen, a centre for genetics in healthcare, organised two ‘Meet the scientist’ days for biology students.
The students got to see laboratories, the Genetic Medicine department and the new Centre for Advanced Discovery and Experimental Therapeutics. Many researchers from the Biomedical Research Centre gave talks on their work and students had the opportunity to discuss ethical dilemmas and the wider implications of genetics research.
These workshops are part of the Wellcome Trust-funded Nowgen Schools Genomics Programme. This three-year programme aims to change the way that genetics is taught in UK secondary schools and help young people assess the potential of genomics.
