Our collections
High-quality biomaterial is supplied for our Biobank by a network of clinicians, surgeons and pathologists.
All patient donations are given with informed consent and all areas of operation are governed by strict standard operating procedures with appropriate quality control measures.
In its first year the Biobank team have banked over 5,000 individual specimens from patients undergoing surgery at Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
We currently hold biomaterials from the following disease areas:
- Gynaecological disease (including benign, malignant and control samples)
- Head & Neck cancer
- Endocrine disease
- Bowel disease (including cancer, irritable bowel syndrome and Crohn’s disease)
Tumour tissues are quality checked by a pathologist before release and a digital hematoxylin and eosin slide is available on request.
Research is supported by anonymised medical information in the form of a non-identifiable donor data set, which includes:
- Donor age, sex, medical history and medication taken
- Histopathology information relevant to the clinical specimens collected, such as specimen type, histological type, grade, stage and other pathology
New collections can be initiated on request to meet a specific research need. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.
