Our Biomedical Research Centre is unique in being sited on a hospital campus that homes both adult and paediatric clinical research facilities. Access to world-class facilities allows researchers to bridge the translational gap, enabling research ideas to be taken more effectively into clinical practice.

Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Facility Manchester

The millennium Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Facility Manchester provides a supportive, patient focussed environment to host clinical research of the highest scientific excellence. It opened in 2001 and ongoing research extends across a wide range of disciplines.

The facility provides a comprehensive research environment.  The Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Facility and Wellcome Trust Children's Clinical Research Facility were awarded £5.5M in funding from NIHR in 2012.

 Wellcome Trust Children’s Clinical Research Facility

The Wellcome Trust Children’s Clinical Research Facility is the first of its kind in the North West and one of only a small number across the UK. It opened in November 2009, based in the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.

Working with children and families, the facility carries out clinical research in all areas of child health, with a special interest in the testing of new medicines in children and young adults, to ensure that they are both safe and effective.

The unit aims to promote a family friendly and safe environment for children and their families, supporting patient focussed clinical research where a day case or in-patient bed is required. With access to all of the hospital’s state-of-the-art equipment and resources, children can take part in research studies alongside ongoing treatment.
