Maternal & Fetal Health Research Centre
The Maternal and Fetal Health Research Centre is Europe's largest pregnancy research centre with over 80 research and support staff, including clinical-scientists, scientists and research midwives.
With a vision of finding solutions to pregnancy problems, the centre particularly focuses on pre-eclampsia, intrauterine growth restriction, pre-term labour and diabetes.
The multidisciplinary nature of the research centre is reflected in the breadth of current research, from testing potential new drugs for pregnancy diseases to feasibility study of lifetsyle interventions to reduce the effects of obesity in pregnancy.
The Maternal and Fetal Health Research Centre is integrated with Saint Mary's Hospital, which delivers more than 6,000 babies each year. The centre's work is supported by current funding of £10million. This includes a Medical Research Council programme grant, infrastructure, funding from the charity Tommy's and an Action Medical Research Endowment Fund.
